This unit provides prompt pain relief and palliative care through different modalities of services & immediate management of pain to patients at any stage of the disease (mostly terminally ill) with an intention for an improved quality of life. The services provided here have managed to garner recognition throughout different region which is reflected through the influx of patients from various government and private medical colleges & hospitals of eastern India.IAPC certification courses are being conducted in 2 sessions in a year for all doctors, nurses, volunteers and social workers at the centre.
Our centre, being the State Nodal Centre for Palliative Care, coordinates with the 30 satellite centres established at district headquarter hospitals of the state, to offer Palliative treatment. There is a plan to strengthen this department by creating separate faculty post, thereby opening PG course in Palliative Medicine. MOU with Bagchi-Karunashraya has been signed for home based palliative care free of cost in the state.
