Oral cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers of the world and the commonest in India. There is excellent evidence from many sources that approximately 90% of these cancers are due to tobacco abuse in any form and poor oral & dental hygiene. Almost 70% - 80% of the cases reported have advanced stage of cancer which is practically in Stage-III & IV. Cancers of the Thyroid gland, parotid gland and minor salivary glands are also frequently reported in this Dept. The incidence of pre-malignant lesions like leukoplakia and sub-mucous fibrosis has increased considerably.
Cosmetic value being a vital factor, various reconstructive procedures is being performed by this department. The post- graduate students, Paramedical staffs and ex- service doctors are imparted regular training programs keeping in view the early detection, prevention and treatment of Head & Neck cancers as the main theme.
