Medical Physics

The Department of Medical Physics ensures the implementation of the provisions of the Radiation Protection Rules (RPR)-2004, enforced by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Government of India, through the following responsibilities:

• The evaluation and optimization of radiation treatment planning for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy;


• The performance of radiation dosimetry, periodic calibrations, and quality assurance (QA) testing—ensuring traceability to a national patients to appropriate treatment modalities and follow-up care. The department comprises several sections, including histopathology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), cytology, hematology, clinical pathology, biochemical pathology, and microbiology. Besides providing hospital laboratory services, the department's staff actively participate in various cancer detection camps and training programs for doctors & paramedical staff of in collaboration with state NCD Cell. Operating under standard treatment protocols, the department is equipped to conduct advanced studies in cytology, histology, biochemistry, hematology, clinical pathology, microbiology, and bone marrow evaluation. Additionally, twenty students are admitted every year for the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) course, while life science and biotechnology students from different universities receive training in the department as project fellows.
